5+ years. Same crew. New stories. Same legendary golf.
Every year, my buddies and I escape for a boys golf trip, a tradition we’ve somehow kept going for over 5 years now. We’ve teed it up on some world-class golf courses in Oregon, California, and everywhere in between, but Mexico always finds its way back into the rotation. Between the Pacific Ocean views, next-level tacos, and some of the most scenic courses we’ve played, it’s the kind of buddies trip that never disappoints.
Know Before You Go
Getting to Cabo
We flew into Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and rented cars from the airport. The drive to Quivira Golf Resort and community takes about 45 minutes on smooth, well-marked highways. Super safe and easy to navigate, even with golf bags, coolers, and a few questionable playlist choices.
Renting Clubs
Most courses in Cabo San Lucas offer golf club rental options. After calculating the rental prices, it made more sense for us to fly with our clubs. A few of us flew together and packed two sets of clubs in one travel case to save on baggage fees, which is definitely worth coordinating if you can.
We all swear by the Founders Club travel golf case. It’s padded, durable, and can handle even the most chaotic airport handling. If you often take golf trips, a travel bag is 100% worth it.

Rental Car Tips
We typically rent cars right at the airport.
Having a car is the easiest way to get to Quivira and gives you flexibility for golf, dinners, or beer runs. The roads are safe and easy to drive, even for first-timers in Cabo.
If you’re bringing clubs, double-check trunk space before booking or consider two cars for the group.
Where to Stay
We always stay in the Quivira Los Cabos community, an exclusive, gated development on the Pacific coast that’s home to one of Mexico’s best courses!
Quivira is known as the “Pebble Beach of Mexico”, and features a Jack Nicklaus-designed layout with jaw-dropping cliffside holes and ocean views.
Quivira Golf Resort Accommodations:
Quivira offers a range of lodging options to fit your group’s needs, from single-room beachfront resorts to luxury, privately owned residences you can book through Airbnb or directly.
For Quivira Pueblo Bonito Properties, you must book directly on their website, which is linked (#1 & #2) below. We typically find other great deals by searching ‘Copola at Quivira’ or ‘Montecristo Quivira’ on booking.com search engine.
Top Quivira Accommodations:
- Pueblo Bonito Resorts – Sunset Beach– all inclusive, family friendly hotel, close to The Market at Quivira food hall and Armonia Spa.
- Pueblo Boninto – Montecristo Estates: luxury 3 bedroom villas, private infinity pool, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzi.
- Copala at Quivira 71– 3 Bedroom, sleeps 8, condo with private rooftop jacuzzi.
- Unique Renovated 3 Bed Montecristo Villa at Quivira– 3-bedroom villa in Montecristo.
On this trip, we split our group (12 guys) between two fully equipped resorts inside Quivira: Montecristo Estate & Copala condos. Ideally, we would have booked two homes in the same Quivira neighborhood to make it easier to go between houses after golf.
1. Quivira Golf Club
If you plan a boys ‘golf trip to Cabo, Quivira Golf Club is the crown jewel. Built along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this Jack Nicklaus-designed course is famous for its cliffside tee boxes, panoramic views, and next-level comfort stations serving up free all-you-can-eat tacos, sliders, and cocktails.
It’s one of those scenic courses that even non-golfers (like my wife) would love just riding. On our last trip, we spotted whales swimming just off the shore while lining up a shot, unreal!
I think my golf buddies would all agree that this is the kind of golf course that has you planning your next trip before you’ve even finished the first round.
- Rates: $295–$395, depending on the season
- Club rentals: $79
2. Solmar Golf Links
Formerly known as Rancho San Lucas, this Greg Norman-designed course opened in 2020 and has become one of Cabo’s best public ocean courses. It’s well-maintained, loaded with photo-worthy views, and the amenities are just as strong as the layout.
Even better, it’s open to the public, so you do not need to stay on property to play (like you do with Quivira)
Solmar was ranked #3 Best Golf Resort in Mexico and Central America by Golf Digest, and their tagline, “How many times can you say wow?” totally delivers.
The course is all-inclusive, with four comfort stations stocked with food and drinks
- Rates: $295–$395, depending on the season
- Club rentals: $79
While Quivira and Solmar are our top choices, here are a few runner-up courses to consider.
3. Puerto Los Cabos
A unique 27-hole facility designed by Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus, offering three different 18-hole combinations. You’ll play through desert and ocean landscapes with free comfort stations serving food and drinks every few holes.
- Rates: $280-$395
- Club rentals: Callaway Rentals
4. Palmilla
The first Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Latin America, Palmilla features three scenic nines: Mountain, Arroyo, and Ocean. Expect dramatic views and challenging holes overlooking the Sea of Cortez.
- Rates: $130-$225
- Club rentals:
- $65 before 12:00 PM
- $45 from 12:00 PM-1:50 PM
- $35 at 2:00 PM and after.
Where to Eat
Cabo’s food scene is top-notch, especially if you love fresh seafood, ocean views, and strong drinks. Prices have gone up in recent years, but we’ve found the quality still holds up.
Since we ate so much of the free food on the golf course, we mainly went out for dinners.
1. El Toro Guero
If you’re looking for authentic, local, seafood-based Mexican food, this place is a must. Casual, colorful, and buzzing with energy, it’s perfect for large groups. The portions are huge, the seafood is fresh and perfectly cooked, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. No frills spot, just great food in a friendly, laid-back setting.
2. Acre
This open-air, farm-to-table restaurant by Chef David Fajardo is located off a long dirt road in the desert. With a jungle-like setting and treehouse-style seating, the vibe is unmatched.
The globally inspired, locally sourced menu is elevated and thoughtful, and Acre earned a Michelin Green Star in 2024 for its sustainability efforts. The staff was super accommodating, and while the cocktails are on the pricey side, the whole experience feels special.
3. Hungry Shark
A beachside gem right on Médano Beach with killer seafood tacos, strong margaritas, and a super chill atmosphere.
You can either book a table or order food straight to the lounge chairs on the sand.
4. Casa Martin
A family-owned favorite with an upscale yet rustic Mexican atmosphere, live music, and a menu that hits for both breakfast and dinner.
Great for a night out with the group or a more relaxed brunch before your tee time. Think handcrafted cocktails, hearty dishes, and friendly local charm in every corner.
Final Thoughts
Between the world-class golf, incredible food, and all-around good vibes, Cabo nails it every time. If you’re planning your next boys’ trip, this destination checks every box and then some.
